Production per cow&lt;/a&gt; in the 23 major States averaged 1,700 pounds, 3 lbs above October 2007.  The number of

milk cows on farms&lt;/a&gt; in the 23 major States was 8.46 million 
head, 105,000 head more than October 2007, and 1,000 head more than September 2008.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
