The NASS
average dry whey and
NFDM price experienced significant month-over-month drops in values which resulted in close to a$3.00 drop in the Class I mover. The two-week average dry whey price announced today was $0.2673 compared to $0.4380 announced on Jan. 18th, a 39% drop. NFDM dropped from $1.6931 to $1.3398 over this same period, a drop of 21% .

The
Nov. commercial slaughter decreased to 217.4 thousand head from the Oct. value of 244.6 thousand. For the year, 2,292,200 dairy cows have been slaughtered compared to 2,141,600 head in 2006. This represents a 7.03% increase.

End of November Total American Cheese stocks decrease 2% from both Oct. ‘07 and Nov. ‘06 values. At the end of the month
American Cheese Stocks stood at 508.2 mil. lbs.

Nov. milk prod. in the 23 major States was 13.8 bil.
lbs., up 3.8% from Nov. 2006. Oct. prod., unrevised at
14.2 bil. lbs., was up 4.1% from Oct. 2006.
Nov. prod/cow in the 23 major States averaged 1,654 lbs,
40 lbs above Nov. 2006.
The number of milk cows on farms in the 23 major States was 8.36 mil. head, 101,000 head more than Nov. 2006, and 8,000 head more than Oct. 2007.

October commercial butter stocks decreased 44.9
mil. lbs., the most ever for October. At the end of the month, commercial butter stocks were estimated by USDA to be 195.3 mil. lbs. The large reduction is being attributed to strong export demand and domestic sales.

Total cheese production slipped below year-ago levels in September.
Output was 777.5 mil. lbs., down 1.4% from a year ago
Cheddar cheese production continues to decrease with Sept. production just 232.9 million lbs., down 8.4% compared with Sept. 2006.

declined by more than 18 mil. lbs from Aug. but are at the highest Sept. value since 1993.

The August end-of month
total natural cheese stocks decreased 17.6 million lbs from July to 847.790 million lbs. The August ‘06 stock level was 862.322 million lbs.

August end-of-month
commercial butter stocks were 260.7 million lbs, the most ever for this date. The average over the 8-year 1999-2006 period was 163.1 million lbs.
