Jan. 2009 Class III and IV Prices Announced

The Jan. ‘09 Announced Class III price is $10.78.  This represents a $$4.50 drop from Dec. ‘08 and a $8.57 drop from Jan. ‘08.  The Jan. ‘09 Announced Class IV price is $9.59.  This represents a drop of $0.76 from the Dec. ‘08 value.

Feb. Class I Mover Announced

The Feb. Class I mover was announced as $10.72, a drop of $5.02 from Jan. ‘09 and $8.96 from Feb. ‘08.  This represents the lowest Class I mover since June 2003.  This level of mover will generate a minimum of a $1.34 February MILC payment. The payment will probably be higher given the feed-cost adjustment that will be made to the MILC price target.   The final MILC payment level will not be known until the end of March when the final feed prices used in the MILC payment calculations are known.

California Feb. Class I Prices Drop More Than $6 From Jan. '09

The California Feb. Class I Price drops more than $6.00 from the January levels. The Southern CA Class I price for Feb. was announced to be $11.55, a drop from $17.69 in January.  The Feb. 2008 level was $21.71. This is the lowest Class I price since 1995 when the current pricing system was established.

CME Spot Cheddar Prices Fall Below Support

The CME Spot Barrel price fell to $1.0975 in today’s spot market at the CME. &npsp;The Block price fell to $1.1275.

Dec. '08 Class III is $15.28 and Class IV is $10.35

The USDA released the Announced Dec. Class III and IV prices today.  The Announced Class III price is $15.28 compared to $15.51 for November and $20.60 for Dec. ‘07.&nbsp The Dec. Announced Class IV is $10.35 compared to $12.25 for Nov.  The Dec. ‘07 Class IV was $19.18.

CME Block Price Decreases to Support Level for the 1st Time Since March 2006

As of yesterday, the CME spot block price is at $1.1325 and the barrel price is $1.13.  Government purchase prices are $1.1314 and $1.1014, respectively.  The last time the Feds bought cheese was 2003, when 35.4 mil. lbs. was purchased between Jan. and July.

Dec. Milk-Feed Price Ratio Drops to 1.97

The preliminary decreased to 1.97 from a Nov. level of 2.02.  This value compares to the Dec. ‘07 value of 2.85.

Significant Drop in Cash and Futures Markets Yesterday

The CME spot price for block cheese fell 8.5 cents yesterday to close the year at $1.1825, only 5 cents about Support level. The barrel price fell 6 cents to $1.2475 . The futures markets reacted accordingly. The Jan-Jun ‘09 futures contracts fell by an average of 50.6 cents and the Jul-Dec ‘09 futures fell by an average 41.0 cents.

Jan. '09 Advance Class I Price is $15.74

The USDA announced the Advanced Class I price for Jan. ‘09 today as $15.74.  This represents a $0.31 increase from Dec. ‘08 and a $5.23 decrease from Jan. ‘08.

Jan-Apr '09 Futures Average Settle Price is $12.72

Milk futures fell to new lows. The 1st quarter ‘09 settle prices average 12.66.  In the last 5 trading days, the Jan-Apr. ‘09 futures have fallen $1.28.
