Spot butter was offered 2¢ lower to finish the week 8¢ last week from the previous week. Butter futures continued to decrease with AUG-NOV falling 9.75¢ from previous week. Blocks and barrels each increased a penny last week. Class III futures were down from a week ago in all but the first few contract-months, including a 63¢ drop in DEC. The outlook for global grain supplies and food prices grew more precarious last week as the
U.S. Agriculture Department said it expects U.S. corn supplies to fall to the near-record low
level set 15 years ago.
Red-hot prices aren’t cooling the appetite for U.S. grain as in the past, which means U.S.
supplies are continuing to be drained at a rapid rate to make ethanol fuel, fatten livestock and

This morning the USDA released the May Class III price. It is
$13.38/cwt. This represents a $0.46 increase from the April level and a whopping $4.54.cwt increase from May 2009. For the formal announcement of this price click here. For the actual data, go to the
