The preliminary June ‘08 Milk-Feed Price Ratio was estimated to be 1.78. This is a record low and a drop from the May level of 1.83. The June 2007 value was 2.88.

The May CPI for the overall Dairy Products category is 207.8, a 10.9% increase over May, ‘07. For the All Fresh Milk category, the CPI was 146.9, a 10.2% increase from May ‘07. For the Cheese and Related category, the May CPI was 209.9 which represents a 14.1% increase from the 2007 value.

Cheddar Cheese prices received for US 40 pound Blocks averaged $2.16 per pound for the week ending June 7. The price per pound increased 9.1 cents from the previous week. The price for US 500 pound Barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture averaged $2.22 per pound, up 7.8 cents from the previous week.

CME spot butter prices jumped 3ยข this morning to $1.5125, the highest price since last July. As a result, butter futures increased in the front 6 months.

The California 4b price for May increases to$18.66. This is an $1.87 increase over the April value of $16.79. The May 4a price increased to $15.19 from the April value of $14.31.

The May Milk-Feed price ratio was a record-low 1.83, down from 1.89 in April. The ratio has fallen eight straight months since registering 3.18 last September.
