Falling Crop Outlook Puts Corn Above $5

Corn prices climbed above $5 a bushel last Friday as reports of a disappointing U.S. crop proliferated, delivering an unexpected hit to already-tight global grain supplies. As harvest results trickle in field by field across the U.S. Midwest, many farmers are reporting that yields down from last year. This has repercussions in nations such as China, where grain supplies are closely monitored. China is the second-biggest consumer of corn after the U.S., and a potentially crop-damaging frost in its northeast agricultural region triggered Friday’s move above the $5 mark.

July Butter Exports 2nd Highest in Past 6 Yrs.

Cheese Exports are Strong

For a fifth straight month, cheese exports in July were the highest they’ve been in the last six years; cheddar volume is about 20% of the total. Cheese Production Jumped 4.7% In July

US cheese production during July totaled 882.3 mil. lbs., up 4.7% from July 2009, USDA’s, NASS reported Thursday.

Cheese production during the first seven months of 2010 totaled 6.013 bil. lbs, up 2.8%t from the first 7 months of 2009. Cheese production in the two leading states moved in opposite directions during July. WI’s July cheese output totaled 221.7 mil. lbs, down 0.6% from July 2009. In contrast, CA’s July cheese production, at 188.4 million pounds, was up 12.8 percent from July 2009.

Judge Dismisses Some, But Not All, Complaints In Dairy Antitrust Lawsuit

US District Court Judge Christina Reiss, in a decision issued Monday in a dairy antitrust case, granted some defendants’ motions to dismiss claims but denied motions to dismiss other claims. The case dates back to October of 2009, when a class action, antitrust lawsuit was filed on behalf of Northeast dairy farmers against Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) and Dean Foods Company. Dairy Marketing Services (DMS), a DFA affiliate, and HP Hood were also named in the lawsuit.

Idaha Passes NY in Terms of Milk Production
