California’s milk production has decreased three out of the last four months, when compared to year-earlier levels.
FDA Finds Traces of Melamine in US Infant Formula

Traces of the industrial chemical melamine have been detected in samples of top-selling U.S. infant formula, but federal regulators insist the products are safe. The Food and Drug Administration said last month it was unable to identify any melamine exposure level as safe for infants, but a top official said it would be a “dangerous overreaction” for parents to stop feeding infant formula to babies who depend on it.

The Dec. Advanced Class I price is $15.43. This represents a $1.90 decrease from the Nov. level and a $6.02 decrease from Nov. 2007.
Consumer Confidence Index Added to Our Database

The Consumer Confidence Index published by the Conference Board is now part of our database system. The data spans 1977 to the current.
Sept. Dairy Trade Data Now Available

Last week, the USDA released the September import and export trade data. We have available 4, 6 and 10 digit monthly and quarterly figures. Both quantity and value of shipments data is part of our dataset.
U.S. Milk Proudction Continues its Year-Over-Year Increase

October’s 23-state milk production was 14.4 bil. lbs, an increase of 1.5% from October 2007. Production per cow in the 23 major States averaged 1,700 pounds, 3 lbs above October 2007. The number of milk cows on farms in the 23 major States was 8.46 million head, 105,000 head more than October 2007, and 1,000 head more than September 2008.
California Dec. Class I Prices Show Significant Decreases

The base December California Class I price for Northern California is $16.57. This represents a $2.15 decline from November and a $6.39 decrease from December 2007.
NASS NFDM Weekly Average Price is $0.8565

The release of this morning’s NASS Dairy Product Price Report shows that the average NFDM price for the week ending Nov. 8th was $0.8565. The previous week, the average price was $0.9096.
The Average 2009 Class III Forecast to be in the $14.75-$15.65 range.

According to the latest WASDE report, the average Class III price is forecast to be in $14.75-$15.65. This is $0.90 lower than last month.
