On Nov. 19, USDA will open the border to imports of Canadian cattle, including dairy heifers. Prior to the ban, the United States was importing an estimated 4,000-6,000 dairy cows per month.

The CME spot price for cheddar blocks continue to decrease. The $0.1125 drop yesterday was followed by another $0.06 drop today.

The Monthly Mailbox Price series for June ‘06, May ‘07 and June ‘07 are not correct. We are working on fixing the problem.

In the Midwest, dry whey is mostly 42.75 – 47.75¢ (-2.5¢ from a week ago) and in the West, dry whey is mostly 38 – 46¢ (-3.5¢ from the low range and -4.0¢ from the high range), according to USDA’s Dairy Market News.

Blocks at the CME spot market dropped 11.25¢ today to $2.0500 on an offer-based sale of 1 car. Barrels dropped 4.25¢ .

Total July cheese output was 795.4 million lbs., up 2.6% from a year ago. In the first seven months of 2007, total cheese output was 5.621 billion lbs., up just 2.0% vs. 2006.

At the CME spot market, blocks increased 3.75¢ and barrels rose 3¢. Blocks settled at $2.1375 on an unfilled bid for 2 cars, which leaves blocks just 6.25¢ below their record high of $2.20, set in April, 2004.
