The September Milk-Feed Price Ratio is 3.21, an increase from 2.61 a year ago. The Sept. All-Milk Price hit a
record-high $21.80. The corn
price dropped 7¢/bu. to $3.19 and alfalfa hay dropped $2.00/ton to
$135.00. This was countered by the rising
price of soybeans which increased
62¢/bu. to $8.34.

The August end-of month
total natural cheese stocks decreased 17.6 million lbs from July to 847.790 million lbs. The August ‘06 stock level was 862.322 million lbs.

August end-of-month
commercial butter stocks were 260.7 million lbs, the most ever for this date. The average over the 8-year 1999-2006 period was 163.1 million lbs.

The October
Advanced Class I price
decreased $0.32 to $21.59. The October 2006 value was $12.42.

The
CME block price
dropped 13.75 cents on Friday which resulted in a week over week drop of 17.5 cents.
Barrel prices
are now 8.5 cents higher than blocks.

The 50-state
August milk production
level was estimated to be 15.57 billion lbs., an increase of 3.4% from August ‘06.
The number of milk cows increased 11,000 head to 9.168 million head which makes the U.S. dairy herd the largest since 2000. 
Production per cow in the 50 states was 54.8 lbs./day, up 1.5 lbs. (+2.8%) Aug. ‘06.

The dramatic reduction in
blocks and barrels
continued today at the CME. Blocks have lost 23.25¢ the last 3 trading days and barrels have fallen 20.25¢.
