The Nov. commercial slaughter decreased to 217.4 thousand head from the Oct. value of 244.6 thousand. For the year, 2,292,200 dairy cows have been slaughtered compared to 2,141,600 head in 2006. This represents a 7.03% increase.

The big decline in cheese prices at the CME was reversed today with blocks trading at $1.95 up 14.5¢ on Friday while barrels traded at $1.90, an increase of 10.0¢. For the week blocks were up 2.0¢.

End of November Total American Cheese stocks decrease 2% from both Oct. ‘07 and Nov. ‘06 values. At the end of the month American Cheese Stocks stood at 508.2 mil. lbs.

The Jan. ‘08 Class I was announced today to be $20.97. This is an increased of $0.93 over Dec. ‘07 value and a $7.38 increase over Jan. ‘07. The Class I Mover for 2007 averaged $18.14.

FCStone Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:FCSX), a commodity risk management firm, announced today the acquisition of Downes-O’Neill, LLC, a registered brokerage group and risk management consulting firm specializing in servicing the dairy industry.
The all-cash transaction is expected to close in early 2008 and should be immediately accretive to earnings. Downes-O’Neill is a highly complementary business to FCStone’s existing platform, which should facilitate a smooth integration going forward.

Nov. milk prod. in the 23 major States was 13.8 bil. lbs., up 3.8% from Nov. 2006. Oct. prod., unrevised at 14.2 bil. lbs., was up 4.1% from Oct. 2006.
Nov. prod/cow in the 23 major States averaged 1,654 lbs, 40 lbs above Nov. 2006.
The number of milk cows on farms in the 23 major States was 8.36 mil. head, 101,000 head more than Nov. 2006, and 8,000 head more than Oct. 2007.

The CME Spot Barrel price dropped $0.22 today to end at $1.77. The price last Tuesday was $2.16.

The World Trade Organisation (WTO) launched an investigation on Monday into multi-billion dollar U.S. farm subsidies that Brazil and Canada say break international trading rules.
The size of U.S. farm subsidies is a major battleground in the WTO’s six-year-old Doha round talks on opening world trade.
Monday’s WTO probe of U.S. agricultural support for wheat, corn, rice and other crops comes three days after the U.S. Senate passed a $286 billion farm bill, following a similar bill from the House of Representatives in July.
